ABOUT THE COLLECTION

The Dune family’s two-tone finishes of matte and high gloss ceramics enhance the sculptural crests and ridges that variegate the dishes and platters. Taking an unexpected turn, the corrugated motif is repeated across glassware and flatware in differing forms to yield diverse yet holistic place settings. As is crucial to Wearstler’s broader practice, mixed materiality is central here. To further elevate the dining experience, she has developed marble serving-ware to anchor the tablescape with shapes evocative of the same age-old Grecian techniques that are evident in the ceramics. Staying true to her consistent references to the natural world while level setting the overall tone, Wearstler incorporates relaxed, organic wood serving pieces to the Dune range, rounding out the elemental family of ceramic, stone, glass and metal tableware.

Kelly Wearstler, founder and principal of Kelly Wearstler design studio, is an American designer creating multi-faceted, experiential residential, hospitality, commercial and retail environments as well as expansive collections of lifestyle product designs and brand collaborations. A multi-layered, stimulating sensory experience is at the center of Wearstler’s design approach. Through an exploration of materiality, color, forms and an intuitive juxtaposition of contemporary and vintage, architectural and organic, graphic and instinctual, she curates a wealth of experiences into every space. Wearstler believes that honoring history, location and architecture is imperative to pushing the boundaries and challenging the rules.

Rich, dimensional patterns and unexpected color pairings are signatures to the Kelly Wearstler design vernacular. In keeping with her studio’s current explorations, Wearstler engages futuristic 3D vector grids and ancient glassware motifs within the Zuma family. For the porcelain dinnerware, Wearstler stripped down a digital graphic pattern to convey a hand painted feel, creating the perfect balance between tech and handcraft. The patterns vary throughout the range and are intended to be mixed and matched across colors and shapes - in classic Wearstler fashion. To complement the contemporary references of the porcelain, Wearstler developed stemware that draws upon amber tones found in ancient glass from across the globe. Taking a rectilinear shape, the light and airy color application juxtaposes the unusually thick and straight nature of its form - creating an unexpected harmony with the graphic patterned dishes.
