A celebration around the table
Some milestones deserve more than a toast. In 2026, we celebrate 40 years of Serax, four decades of design, craftsmanship and creative collaboration. What began in Belgium in 1986 with a collection of flowerpots has grown into an international design brand for tableware, lighting, glassware, interior accessories and furniture, created in collaboration with established and emerging designers from around the world.
To mark our 40th anniversary, these different creative perspectives came together around the table, through objects, flowers and a setting created for the occasion.
Forty years of design, reimagined
For our anniversary, long-time Serax collaborators Studio Simple created a series of still lifes bringing together iconic and contemporary pieces from across the Serax collection, spanning tableware, glassware and interior accessories. The Belgian-Dutch design duo has worked with us since 2009, sharing an approach in which objects are considered not in isolation, but as part of a broader narrative.
Rather than presenting four decades of design as a chronological retrospective, the still lifes brought different materials, forms and creative perspectives into dialogue. A Serax classic such as Paola Navone's Fish & Fish carafe appeared alongside more recent designs, including the sculptural vases by Shurleey. Together, the compositions offered a contemporary reflection on 40 years of Serax and the diversity of the designers and objects that shape our collections.
Flowers, intuition and a little bit of chaos
Antwerp-based flower artist Mark Colle brought his distinctive approach to the table. Known for his instinctive and unconventional floral compositions, Mark has created work for some of the biggest names in fashion, including Dior, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Raf Simons, Prada and Louis Vuitton. His work is lush and expressive, often balancing order and chaos, elegance and rebellion.
For the occasion, Mark transformed the sweeping S-shaped table into a floral landscape, working with vases by Kris Van Assche, pieces he had previously styled for a Serax campaign shoot. Flowers, grasses and delicate stems emerged from them, some standing upright, others deliberately placed on their side across the table. The arrangement unfolded freely across the setting, bringing Mark's instinctive approach to floristry into dialogue with Kris Van Assche's sculptural forms.
A table shaped by togetherness
At the centre of the celebration stood two long tables arranged in the shape of an S, a subtle nod to Serax and a setting designed to bring people together.
Among the designs was Perfect Imperfection by the late Belgian artist and ceramicist Roos Van de Velde. Created in collaboration with Serax in 2012, the collection introduced an artistic and unconventional perspective through its organic porcelain forms. Alongside it, Ann Demeulemeester's refined cutlery and glassware brought another distinctive design language to the table. Her uncompromising approach and attention to detail are reflected in objects where material, proportion and function are carefully considered.
Together with Mark Colle's expressive floral arrangements, the designs brought different materials and creative perspectives into one setting.
Forty years, and counting
Our 40th anniversary offers a moment to reflect on what continues to define Serax today: collaboration with distinctive creative voices, a strong focus on craftsmanship and a broad collection spanning designer tableware, furniture, lighting, glassware and interior accessories. Since our beginnings in Belgium in 1986, Serax has grown from a collection of flowerpots into an international platform for contemporary design. Forty years later, collaboration remains at the heart of what we do, with established names and emerging talent continuing to shape our collections through their own ideas, materials and perspectives.
As we enter our next chapter, our approach remains unchanged: creating objects with character, designed to become part of everyday life.
