METALS
At Serax, we use various metals, including steel, cast iron and aluminium. Each metal has its own precautions.
Steel can rust when exposed to moisture and oxygen. That’s why we have put a protective coating on it. When cleaning, use a soft cloth and mild soap to avoid scratching the coating. Always drying well after cleaning is not an unnecessary luxury.
Our cast iron teapots are enamelled on the inside and, therefore, stainless. The exterior is thermally coated and is not fully water resistant. Dry the teapot thoroughly after use. If some rust develops, remove the stain with a soft brush or sponge. If you have persistent rust, you can use cola. Rinse, dry thoroughly and rub the teapot with some (olive) oil if necessary.
Aluminium oxidises naturally, but that doesn’t harm. On the contrary, the oxidised top layer avoids harmful rust. For this reason, aluminium is water-resistant and a suitable material for outdoor furniture. We apply an extra protected coating on the aluminium and recommend not to use aggressive cleaning agents.
