Collection
Illumina & Leo is a collection of ceramic table lamps designed by Belgian ceramicist and interior architect Claire Horsten in collaboration with Serax. Shaped in unglazed clay, the collection spans two distinct lines that share one belief: that raw material and careful proportion are all a lamp needs. Left in soft sand and earth tones, each designer table lamp carries the trace of its making and fills the room with calm, ambient light.
Leo, short for Light Emitting Object, is soft and rounded. The shades were formed on the wheel for a crisp silhouette, while the hand-built bases keep the maker's touch visible. Illumina takes a more architectural approach, with slab-built cubes, rectangles and ovals in which proportion takes centre stage. Once lit, the integrated LED casts a subtle grid pattern across the floor, a play between light and structure. Together, they make modern table lamps that feel sculptural, individual and effortlessly at home in any interior.
Designer
Claire Horsten is a Belgian ceramicist and interior architect whose work explores how material, form and light meet. She earned a master’s degree in Interior Architecture from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and took up ceramics in 2019. Since then she has developed a distinctive visual language of unglazed clay, natural earth tones, precision and a strong sense of proportion. She works almost exclusively with raw clay and uses glaze only where function requires it, so every surface stays honest and keeps a trace of the making process. “Clay remembers every touch,” she says. “Each piece carries a trace of the process, of care and attention.”For Serax, Horsten translates this approach into Leo and Illumina, two collections of ceramic designer table lamps that explore light through soft, rounded forms and architectural geometry.
