Collection
The Cabbage is a sculptural ceramic object inspired by the layered textures and forms of plants. Daphne de Gheldere combined elements from a Savoy cabbage, an alocasia and an ivy to create one new, hybrid form that feels both organic and functional. Hand-sculpted in grog stoneware clay and finished with a dark, shiny green enamel, the piece celebrates the vitality of living plants. The layered, fluid shape with its soft curves and overlapping leaves creates a sense of movement and growth, reflecting the natural irregularity of plants. The Cabbage invites curiosity, encouraging you to notice the beauty and intricacy of the natural world through a quiet, tactile connection with nature.
Designer
Belgian-born Daphne de Gheldere is part of a new generation of ceramic artists redefining the language of clay. Trained in art and design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, she soon discovered ceramics as the most natural way to give form to her imagination. Her work draws on the diversity of nature, shaping pieces that seem to evolve like living organisms and transforming the familiar into something unexpected.
Though early in her career, Daphne has already carved an international path. In Vallauris, the historic cradle of French ceramics, she learned the craft alongside artist Olivia Cognet. In New York, she collaborated with plaster artist Stephen Antonson, refining her sense of sculptural form and materiality. Today, she continues to expand her practice while pursuing a Master's degree in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art in London.
At the beginning of what promises to be a rich trajectory, her work already reflects a distinctive voice, one that continues to evolve much like the natural forms from which it draws.
