Antoine Vandewoude is a self-taught, multidisciplinary designer with a strong hands-
on mentality. Initially, he worked as a theatre technician for the Flanders Opera, using
his free time in between opera productions to restore old furniture. This led to the
establishment of his own workshop in 1993. Soon his bespoke furniture found its way to
the homes of prestigious clients in the fashion and art world, such as fashion designer
Dries Van Noten.

After a successful career in joinery, Vandewoude ventured into ceramics in 2014. The
result is a love story between his hands and the clay. In his furniture and ceramics, he
always starts from his strong imagination, which he already had as a child. Sometimes
the shapes are rough and organic, while others have a more understated design with
sleek lines. Either way, his creations are always inexplicably pure.

Vandewoude does not believe in perfection. He never works to a plan, preferring to
let his hands do the thinking and creating instead. His work is an ode to intuition and
improvisation. Whatever the final product — pots, vases or lamps — Vandewoude always succeeds in striking a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. Each object is practical and designed to accompany its user for a lifetime.
