The Cabbage ist ein skulpturales Keramikobjekt, inspiriert von den geschichteten Texturen und Formen von Pflanzen. Daphne de Gheldere kombinierte Elemente eines Wirsings, einer Alokasie und eines Efeus zu einer neuen, hybriden Form, die sowohl organisch als auch funktional wirkt. Von Hand aus chamottiertem Steinzeugton geformt und mit einer dunkelgrünen, glänzenden Glasur versehen, zelebriert das Stück die Vitalität lebender Pflanzen. Die geschichtete, fließende Form mit ihren weichen Rundungen und überlappenden Blättern erzeugt ein Gefühl von Bewegung und Wachstum und spiegelt die natürliche Unregelmäßigkeit von Pflanzen wider. The Cabbage lädt zur Neugier ein und ermutigt dazu, die Schönheit und Komplexität der Natur wahrzunehmen, durch eine stille, haptische Verbindung mit der natürlichen Welt.
Designer
Belgian-born Daphne de Gheldere is part of a new generation of ceramic artists redefining the language of clay. Trained in art and design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, she soon discovered ceramics as the most natural way to give form to her imagination. Her work draws on the diversity of nature, shaping pieces that seem to evolve like living organisms and transforming the familiar into something unexpected.
Though early in her career, Daphne has already carved an international path. In Vallauris, the historic cradle of French ceramics, she learned the craft alongside artist Olivia Cognet. In New York, she collaborated with plaster artist Stephen Antonson, refining her sense of sculptural form and materiality. Today, she continues to expand her practice while pursuing a Master's degree in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art in London.
At the beginning of what promises to be a rich trajectory, her work already reflects a distinctive voice, one that continues to evolve much like the natural forms from which it draws.
