Collection
The Cabbage is een sculpturaal keramisch object, geïnspireerd op de gelaagde texturen en vormen van planten. Daphne de Gheldere combineerde elementen van een savooikool, een alocasia en een klimop tot één nieuwe, hybride vorm die zowel organisch als functioneel aanvoelt. Met de hand geboetseerd in chamotteklei en afgewerkt met een donker, glanzend groen email, viert het stuk de vitaliteit van levende planten. De gelaagde, vloeiende vorm met zachte rondingen en overlappende bladeren creëert een gevoel van beweging en groei, en weerspiegelt de natuurlijke onregelmatigheid van planten. The Cabbage nodigt uit tot verwondering en stimuleert om de schoonheid en complexiteit van de natuur op te merken, via een stille, tastbare connectie met de natuurlijke wereld.
Designer
Belgian-born Daphne de Gheldere is part of a new generation of ceramic artists redefining the language of clay. Trained in art and design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, she soon discovered ceramics as the most natural way to give form to her imagination. Her work draws on the diversity of nature, shaping pieces that seem to evolve like living organisms and transforming the familiar into something unexpected.
Though early in her career, Daphne has already carved an international path. In Vallauris, the historic cradle of French ceramics, she learned the craft alongside artist Olivia Cognet. In New York, she collaborated with plaster artist Stephen Antonson, refining her sense of sculptural form and materiality. Today, she continues to expand her practice while pursuing a Master's degree in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art in London.
At the beginning of what promises to be a rich trajectory, her work already reflects a distinctive voice, one that continues to evolve much like the natural forms from which it draws.
